Housing
The Washington Internship Program offers accommodations in several locations around the D.C. Metro area to fit every budget. Housing options range from shared homes and townhouses in the city and apartments in the suburbs. Our housing is always expanding. A nonrefundable holding / maintenance fee of $450 assures you of WIP housing, and you can start and end these accommodations at any time you like.
All WIP housing is fully furnished, including washers and dryers, and convenient to public transportation.
Housing scholarships are available based on financial need, and federal scholarships for minorities and women (only for U.S. citizens) provide a stipend, tuition, and housing costs.
Interns are not required to live in WIP housing, which is also available to interns and friends who aren’t part of WIP. By living in WIP accommodations, you avoid the hassle of searching for housing in areas of D.C. that might not be safe or in suburbs that are too far away for convenient commuting, the need to sign year-long leases (which WIP doesn’t require), dealing with difficult landlords, having to prove income (which WIP does not require), or the risk of substandard or dangerous rentals. On the positive side, living with other interns from across the U.S. and abroad is half the fun of belonging to the Washington Internship Program. For networking, enjoying an international community, safety, and intellectual dialogue, WIP housing can’t be beat.
