National Archives
In keeping with the maps of George Washington’s farms at the Library of Congress, in mid September WIP advised interns to view “Eyewitness: American Originals from the National Archives,” which includes letters by George Washington, Lady Bird Johnson's diaries, and other rarely seen artifacts.
Most memorable from the permanent collection is: “Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom,” which features the National Archives’ most famous original documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. Also in the permanent exhibit of the National Archives is the “Magna Carta” exhibit containing one of only four originals of this 1297 charter in existence. An exhibit titled “A New World Is at Hand” explores the history of the Charters of Freedom through original documents. “Public Vaults” displays documents, photographs, maps, films, recordings, and objects from the museum's collection offered as an interactive experience.
