Dr. Krystyn Moon, “Guest Workers of a Different Kind: Immigration and the American Entertainment Industry”

On Thursday, November 2, participants in the Washington Internship Program went to the Library of Congress to hear a professor of history from Georgia State University speak on immigration and the American entertainment industry from the 1850s to the 1920s. Krystyn Moon received her doctorate from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and she is the author of Yellowface: Creating the Chinese in American Popular Music and Performances, 1850-1920 as well as Performing Race: The Rise of Asians and Asian Americans in Vaudeville, 1880s-1930s. This event was held at noon so that interns could attend during an extended lunch hour. The Library of Congress is centrally located on First Street, S.E., between Capitol Street and Independence Avenue.
