Embassy of Israel
Middle Eastern Culture Event
On July 28 during the War in Lebanon, WIP interns were invited to the Embassy of Israel for an ambassadorial briefing, a film about the country, a dinner of Mid Eastern food, live Israeli music, and a wine tasting (for students who were of age) from grapes grown and processed in Israel. An authentic buffet of Israeli dishes was served, included Bourikas (mushrooms, potatoes, and spinach), falafel (salad in a bread pocket), pita (flat bread), hummus (chick-pea paste), techina (sesame-seed past), eggplant salad, olives, and desserts. An Israeli musical presentation and a movie about the land, people, and culture of the state helped frame the diplomatic greeting and discussion of the conflict with Hezbollah, delivered by the Israeli ambassador to Bella Russ. Built of Jerusalem stone, this unique embassy projects the spirit of Israeli diversity through its art and architecture.
